Sitting along Florida’s Gulf Coast, Tampa offers a unique vibe, mixing its many museums and the historic streets of Ybor City with the feel of a waterfront city. A popular port of departure for Caribbean cruises, Tampa is just across the bay from St. Petersburg and Clearwater, and is accessible via Tampa International Airport (TPA).

The heart of downtown Tampa is the Riverwalk, a 2.4-mile path that connects some of the city’s biggest attractions, including the Florida Aquarium and Tampa Bay History Center. A great place to bike, run and walk, it is also the site of festivals and special events.

Tampa International Airport (TPA) is six miles from downtown Tampa and has service by more than 20 airlines to 85 nonstop destinations throughout the U.S., Central America, Europe and the Caribbean.

The design of Tampa International Airport is unique. It has a central landside terminal for ticketing and baggage claim surrounded by four airside satellites (A, C, E and F) witha total of 59 gates. The majority of the airport’s restaurants and shops are located in the satellites, each of which is connected to the terminal by an automated people mover.

Take a guided tour of Ybor City and stop by Ybor City Museum State Park, located at the former site of Ferlita Bakery, which was famous for its Cuban bread before it was damaged by fire in 1922. Today, the museum tells the story of Ybor City’s founders.

Experience the thrill of a safari and feed a giraffe at Busch Gardens theme park. The park is home to more than 12.000 animals of 300 different species. If you prefer a different kind of thrill, there are plenty of rides, including multiple roller coasters like the triple-loop Cheetah Hunt and Cobra’s Curse, a spin coaster.

Ranked among Parent Magazine’s top five kid-friendly aquariums, the Florida Aquarium is a 250,000-square-foot facility designed to illustrate the passage of a drop of water from Florida’s freshwater streams as it journeys to the depths of the Gulf of Mexico. Watch wildlife ranging from otters to octopus frolic in the water.

See the city from the water by navigating Tampa Bay in an eBoat. The sheltered, easy-to-operate electric boat can hold up to 10 passengers and are available to rent by the hour. Or, if you’d rather, book a guided tour.

Tampa has a humid subtropical climate and experiences two seasons. From May through October, it is wet and hot. From November through April, it is mild and dry. The rainy season lasts from June through September, when two-thirds of its annual precipitation falls. The hottest months are June, July, and August, when the average monthly high is 90 degrees and average lows are in the mid-60s. The coolest months are December, January, and February when the average highs are in the mid-70s, with average lows in the low-50s.
