Vancouver is a vibrant, bustling, seaport on the west coast of British Columbia. Backed by the North Shore Mountains and the snow-capped volcano of Mount Baker, Vancouver is rich with culture, apparent in its thriving music, theater, and visual arts scenes. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is located on Sea Island, 7.5 miles from central Vancouver, and serves more than 50 international, domestic, and regional airlines, including Delta Air Lines. It is the second-busiest airport in Canada and has three terminals.

The Main Terminal is divided into the International Terminal and Domestic Terminal. A pedestrian footbridge links the two. The Domestic Terminal has three concourses, and the International Terminal has two. The South Terminal serves two regional airlines.

Dining options include A&W, Burger King, Green Bean Café, Hanami Express, Koho Restaurant and Bar, and Monk’s Grill. Shopping options include Brooks Brothers, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Cartier, Desigual, Gucci, and Hermes.

  • Taxi service is provided from Level 2 of the Domestic and International Arrivals area.
  • Canada Line rail service connects the airport to multiple destinations in Vancouver. Outside the Arrivals area, follow the Canada Line to the elevator and escalator, which will take you to your platform.
  • Rental car agencies are located outside the terminal in the parking garage.

A must-see in Vancouver is the Museum of Anthropology, dedicated to cultural diversity throughout the world with an emphasis on indigenous cultures of the Northwest. A part of the University of British Columbia, the museum underwent a major expansion in 2010, and in 2017 opened the Gallery of Northwest Coast Masterworks. The museum is a teaching facility that also contains laboratories, a library, archives, and storage facilities.

Explore Stanley Park, a massive urban park that contains multiple environmental ecosystems and so many attractions, you could spend days doing them all. Bike, walk, or run along the five-mile seawall offering stunning views of rain forest, mountains, and Vancouver Harbor. You can also hike wooded trails, ride a train, go to the beach, swim in the pool, dine al fresco, and explore totems.

Craft beer is huge in Vancouver. There are more than 30 breweries operating in the city and innumerable pubs serving local brews. Consider a tasting tour, including stops at 33 Acres Brewing Company, Alibi Room, Tap and Barrel, Brewery Creek, and Powell Brewery.

The opulent Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver is located in the city’s tallest building. It features a soaring atrium hung with chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, bringing the stunning city skyline indoors for maximum impact. As an added bonus, the hotel is home to Market, a restaurant from famed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

Located across from the cruise terminal, Fairmont Waterfront not only offers stunning water views, but it also offers exceptional views of the North Shore Mountains. Amenities include a heated pool, a gym, and restaurant. Be sure to take the hour-long Bee Tour on the third-floor apiary and garden.

Immerse yourself in an aesthetic steeped in the arts and culture of the Pacific Northwest at Skwachàys Lodge, with its 40-foot totem pole, lobby gallery of Aboriginal art, and bedrooms decorated by tribal artists. Vancouver has a moderate oceanic, bordering on a Mediterranean, climate. Summers are mild and relatively dry, while the rest of the year is fairly rainy. The hottest months are July and August, when the average highs hover around 72 degrees, with average lows around 57. The coldest months are December and January, when the average lows are around 34 degrees, with average highs in the mid-40s.

Vancouver receives nearly 50 inches of precipitation on average a year. Fifteen inches of that on average is snow. The wettest months are October through April, when precipitation averages between 15 and 20 inches a month.
