Guadalajara Vacation Packages

If you’re seeking a taste of authentic Mexican culture, Mayan ruins and big-city amenities, Guadalajara is the place to go.

Explore Guadalajara

The birthplace of mariachi music, the sombrero and the Mexican hat dance, Guadalajara is a city you don’t want to miss. Mexico's second-largest city is blessed with an abundance of parks, plazas, cathedrals, fountains, murals, colonial-era buildings and modern conveniences that make it a delightful city to visit.

Quintessentially Mexican, Guadalajara is a colonial city with a colorful historic city center. Tree-lined, broad avenues reveal a culinary scene that offers everything from taco stands to high-end restaurants. Many of the city’s neighborhoods have the feel and charm of small-town Mexico. Shop for souvenirs in street markets. Grab a cup of tejuino, a thick, Hispanic drink made from fermented corn. Or if you’re a nature lover, head northeast of the city where you can hike, cycle or bathe in hot springs.

Take a stroll around the city to admire classic monuments and public art, including sculptures and murals that commemorate historical events. Stop to visit Museo de las Artes de la Universidad de Guadalajara, which features modern art and murals by Jose Clementa Orozco. Guadalajara's jazz, salsa, merengue and famous mariachi music create a unique soundtrack you'll hear nowhere else.

Don’t miss a visit to the town of Tequila, about 40 minutes from Guadalajara. Tour one of the many tequila distilleries for a taste and demonstration of how this Mexican beverage is made.

Shopping aficionados come to Guadalajara specifically for the wares sold in Tlaquepaque and Tonala. These two suburbs are traditional handicraft centers that produce a stellar array of folk art and crafts — from embroidered shirts to collectible ceramics and handmade boots. If you’re a shoe fanatic, head to the Galeria del Calzado, which is a gallery made up exclusively of shoe stores.

Blessed with some of Mexico's finest and most affordable restaurants, gourmets will find everything from elegant international cuisine to sidewalk taco stands, with the greatest concentration of fine dining on the west side of the city. Eateries serving good local fare are especially plentiful in the Historic Center. Tamales are a local specialty, along with birria, a spicy stew prepared with lamb, goat or beef in a light tomato broth, and pozole, a thick pork and hominy soup. The most popular mixed drink is the paloma, a concoction of tequila, lime juice and grapefruit soda.

Delta Vacations vacation packages include round-trip airfare aboard Delta to Miquel Hidalgo y Costilla-Guadalajara International Airport (GDL). Round-trip transfers from the airport to your hotel are optional with your Guadalajara package. Since the city is rather spread out and easy to navigate, we recommend you add a car rental to your package for maximum flexibility and convenience.
