Flights to Boston, MA (BOS)

Boston has the distinction of being one of the oldest cities in the United States, founded in 1630 by Puritan colonists from England, and you can’t throw a rock without hitting a piece of history. Established in 1634, Boston Common’s 50 sprawling acres of green space is the oldest urban park in the U.S. Built in 1734, Faneuil Hall was an important meeting place where founding fathers like Samuel Adams gave speeches encouraging independence from Britain. “The Cradle of Liberty” is now a market place and food hall popular with tourists. Bunker Hill Monument National Historic Park marks the site of a significant battle and major win for New Englanders during the Revolutionary War in 1775.

Surrounded by Boston Harbor on three sides, Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is the primary airport serving New England. It has four self-contained terminals, each with its own ticketing, baggage claim and ground transportation. All told, there are 94 gates and nine regional gates from which 40 airlines, including Delta Air Lines, fly nonstop to more than 100 national and international destinations.

There are more than 50 restaurants at Logan Airport, including Wahlburgers, Johnny Rockets, Pinkberry, Starbucks, and Dunkin’ Donuts. Upscale options include Todd English’s Bonfire, Legal Seafood, and Wolfgang Puck.

In addition to duty free shops and Hudson newsstands, shopping options include mall favorites such as Sunglass Hut, Swatch, Kiehl’s, and Victoria’s Secret. For higher end shopping, there is Hugo Boss, Michael Kors, and Montblanc.

There is no better way to immerse yourself into Boston’s historic attractions than by walking the 2.5-mile Freedom Trail which takes you past many important sites, including the Paul Revere House, Boston Common, Faneuil Hall, Bunker Hill Monument, U.S.S. Constitution, Old South Meeting House, Old Corner Book Store, and the statue of Benjamin Franklin.

Go shopping along Newbury Street, an eight-block stretch of high-end stores such as Burberry, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Cartier, and Bulgari. There are lots of restaurants and sidewalk cafes, too.

Immerse yourself in the arts at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, which houses the largest collection of Monets outside France. Founded in 1870, it has more than 450.000 artworks.

Boston is famous for its seafood, specifically lobster, fish and chips, and clams fried, steamed, and in chowder. Neptune Oyster, Island Creek Oyster Bar, and Union Oyster House are perennial favorites.

No matter what season it is, there is a good chance you can catch a professional sports team in action, be it the Red Sox at Fenway Park, the New England Patriots or New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium, or the Boston Celtics or Boston Bruins at Boston Garden.

Weather tends toward the extremes in Boston with hot and humid summers and bitterly cold winters punctuated by a considerable amount of snowfall. July and August are the hottest months, with average highs in the low 80s. January and February are the coldest months with the average lows in the low to mid 20s. Average annual snowfall is 44 inches. It falls mostly between December and March, with January and February receiving the lion’s share.
