Flights to Philadelphia

Philadelphia is a city steeped in history surrounding the birth of our country. It was here the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed. The city is also home to the Liberty Bell.

One of the things that make Philadelphia such an exciting place is the diversity of its population. During the 19th century, it experienced an influx of Italian, German, and Irish immigrants. And during the Great Migration of the early 20th century, it became a significant destination for African-Americans and Puerto Ricans.

Philadelphia has a rich musical history, especially in the realm of soul and R&B. Artists with Philly roots include The O’Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, Patti LaBelle, and Hall & Oates.

The City of Brotherly Love is also a major sports town, and a winning one, too. The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018. The 76ers have won the NBA championship three times. The Phillies are a two-time World Series winner, and the Philadelphia Flyers won the Stanley Cup twice.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) has seven terminals serving 15 domestic and international airlines, including Delta Air Lines.

The airport offers a variety of amenities to travelers. There is a Philadelphia Airport Marriott Hotel on level 2 of Terminal B. For shorter stays to nap, relax or work, Minute Suites on level 2 of Terminal A/B feature work desks, HDTVs, free wi-fi,  daybeds and sound masking systems. Delta Sky Club is on level 2 of Terminal D/E, and there are multiple XpresSpa services and massage chairs throughout the airport. For children, there is an educational play area at Terminal A east, and a Mamava private nursing station in Terminal F.

If you need one more cheesesteak before you go, get your fix at Geno’s Steaks. Other fast-food options include Subway, Smashburger, Pinkberry, Chick-Fil-A, Auntie Annie’s, and Au Bon Pain. Full-service restaurants include Legal Sea Foods, CIBO Bistro & Wine Bar, Jack Duggan’s Pub & Restaurant, Bar Symon.

Shopping options include Gap, The Body Shop, Pandora, L’Occitane, M.A.C., Brookstone, Sunglass Hut, and See’s Candies.

  • SEPTA train service provides transportation between the airport and Center City on the Airport Regional Rail Line. There are stations at Terminal E/F, C/D, B and A.
  • SEPTA bus service picks up at Zone 1 of the Arrivals Road outside baggage claim. Route 37 goes to South Philadelphia and Chester, Pa. Route 108 goes to 69th Street Transportation Center. Route 115 goes to Suburban Square in Ardmore
  • Taxi service is available at Zone 5 on the Commercial Transportation Roadway
  • To secure a private car or shared van service, retrieve luggage from baggage claim and go to Ground Transportation Information and a representative will contact a driver. Sedan and limo service picks up at Zone 5. Shared ride van service picks up at Zone 7 on the Commercial Transportation Roadway.
  • Uber, Lyft and other ride share services pick up on the Arrivals Road in the outer lanes

Immerse yourself in history by visiting Independence Hall, America’s birthplace. This is where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were first debated and signed. It is also where the Liberty Bell, a symbol of freedom to our founding fathers, as well as abolitionists, women suffragettes, and civil rights leader, is on display.

No trip to Philadelphia is complete without a Philly Cheesesteak. Consider conducting a taste by getting two, one each from rivals Geno’s Steaks and Pat’s King of Steaks, to determine which one you think is best.

Long before the foodhall trend took over America, Reading Terminal Market has been catering to foodies since 1892. Today, it is home to over 30 restaurants and vendors serving local delicacies and artisan-made good food items. Popular noshes include a roast pork sandwich, soft pretzel, apple dumpling, local cheeses, and Peking duck.

The attractions at the Philadelphia Museum of Art start with the long stretch of steps leading to the entrance. They were featured in the iconic scene in “Rocky” when Sylvester Stallone ran to the top and raised his hands in victory. Inside, find an impressive collection of Renaissance, American, Impressionist, and Modern works.

The hip elegance of Kimpton Hotel Palomar Philadelphia is achieved by the melding of classic touches with pops of color in a 1929 Art Deco building downtown. In addition to 230 guestrooms offering outstanding views of the city, amenities include in-room spa services, free bike rentals, and Square 1682 restaurant.

Built in 1769, the Thomas Bond House B&B is a four-story brick building with 12 guestrooms filled with period furniture. Some have fireplaces and four-poster beds.

Formerly the home of whiskey baron William Mulherin, Wm. Mulerin’s Sons is a four-guestroom boutique hotel featuring exposed brick walls, hardwood floors, clawfoot tubs, washers and dryers, and kitchenettes with soapstone countertops. Located in trendy Fishtown.

Philadelphia falls into the humid subtropical climate zone. The city experiences four distinct seasons characterized by a mild fall and spring, and a hot and humid summer, and a cold winter with a considerable amount of snowfall. The hottest months are June, July, and August with average highs in the mid-80s. January and February are the coldest months with average lows in the mid-20s. Precipitation is fairly steady throughout the year, averaging 2,64 to 4 inches of rain a month. Average annual precipitation is 41 inches a year, and 23 of that is snow.
