Vluchten naar Duitsland

The diverse scenes and landscapes of Germany can make visitor decisions on what to tackle feel daunting – do you dive into the vibrant, modern city scenes of Frankfurt, Hamburg and Berlin or are you in the mood for picturesque landscapes of Alpine mountains and medieval castles? For those ready to experience Germany to its fullest, a taste of each is the truest path. The unique architecture is a consistent draw, as is Munich’s annual Oktoberfest and soccer stadiums that dot most of the cities and towns across the country. But if vacationers are looking for the ideal mix of cosmopolitan and natural beauty, Germany is tough to beat.

Visitors flying Delta into Germany through Frankfurt (FRA), the country’s busiest airport and one of Europe’s largest cargo hubs, will arrive at Terminal 2. The terminal is separated into concourses D and E, and visitors can use the SkyLine to transfer terminals if needed. Other airports that Delta typically flies into include Munich (MUC) and Stuttgart (STR).

Frankfurt

We can't talk about where Frankfurt is today without mentioning where it has been. The Roemerburg, the old city center, was mostly destroyed in World War II. Since then, it has mostly been rebuilt and remains the spot where Frankfurt is its most identifiable and most at home. Visit the cafés, shops and the cathedral around the square to soak up the uniquely German architecture that inspires thoughts of gingerbread and fairytales.

Downtown Frankfurt is known for its cloud-reaching skyscrapers that rank among some of the tallest in Europe. The Main Building is open to the public, so travelers can ride a sleek elevator to the viewing platform and take in the city from what feels like the top of the world. If you're just looking to get a glimpse of the downtown setting, however, head over to the Main River Bridge which offers the best view in town of the cityscape.

For all the talk of balance, Frankfurt knows how to splurge. A peek at restaurant menus - like the Haus Wertheym, a well-known traditional German fare restaurant - shows that Germans love their schnitzel and spaetzle. And the new batch of hip, see-and-be-seen bars showcase the city's dedication to staying young and on the edge.

Stuttgart

As the home to headquarters of Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, Stuttgart is an international business hub for many of its visitors. And with both companies owning expansive museums of their famous automobiles, the city also attracts its fair share of sports car enthusiasts. But beyond its automotive significance, Stuttgart also features more than its fair share of vast urban greenscapes. Often referred to as the U due to its shape around the city itself, the parks that line Stuttgart create a beautiful path from one side of the city to the other.

Munich

In Munich, the old school and the new school clash in a way few cities can lay claim to. The Bavarian capital is one of the most affluent cities in the world and pulls weight on the international stage that few cities its size can. That affluence, infused by the business sprouting from the city, creates both a modern feel and convenience for those looking for such things. But the beer halls, lederhosen and Oktoberfest itself reveal the traditional Munich.

Despite its size, Germany’s weather varies little from area to area. Warms summers and relatively mild winters are experienced by most of the country, though the mountains will see a greater deal of cold weather as altitude increases. In the country on the whole, January is the coldest month, seeing average temperatures at 27 degrees Fahrenheit.
